Interregnum 03.20-03.21

Interregnum is a project captured during the multiple national lockdowns spanning March 2020 through March 2021, when the Covid pandemic saw the whole world stutter to a halt. My intention wasn't to document the strangeness of the situation: the queues outside the shops or an eerily deserted city centre. For me, taking pictures during this tumultuous time was a kind of therapy. Almost every day during lockdown, I went for an early morning walk. This interlude in our lives gave incentive to explore my neighbourhoods, to see how the streets nearby looked and felt at sunrise and to watch and appreciate the natural world blossom into spring, fade into Autumn and Winter. The images capture some of the beautiful and poetic things I encountered but they also convey visual metaphors for our confusing and disturbing circumstances during these periods of immense unease.
